Choosing Your Door Opener

Belt vs. chain, which system is right for you? Opener belts are made with rubber, through which multiple strands of steel are threaded. For the overwhelming majority of residential garage doors, a belt-drive trolley system provides adequate strength to move your door, and will do so smoothly and quietly. There are situations, however, where a chain drive would be a safer option. In the case of a thick (>2”), double-wide, all wood door, for example, a chain drive trolley system is preferred for the extra tensile strength of the steel chain.
